Australia has an automatic door, but it has been in a bad way for years.
It’s not just the Australian Automobile Association that has noticed.
“It is a common complaint across Australia, the door is too easy to open,” a spokesperson for the Automobile Manufacturers Association of Australia said.
In NSW, the automated door is known as a “smart door” and requires a licence.
The Australian Motor Industry Association (AMIA) says it’s not uncommon for thieves to use the device.
A key issue is the amount of space required for a keypad.
AMIA’s director of operations and safety, Andrew Kowalski, said “there are some people who want to put the door as close as possible to the car to avoid having to open it manually”.
